Tahara Festival

【Tahara City】
Date:Mid-September

The Tahara Festival, a festival representing the castle town of Tahara, is said to have begun as a festival for Kumano Shrine during the Edo period. During the festival, three floats carrying Karakuri dolls, designated as tangible folk cultural properties of the city, and portable shrines from each town are paraded through the town, and at night, children and young people dressed up in costumes perform hand dances on top of the floats, captivating the audience. In the evening of the final day, which marks the festival's finale, hand-held and large-sized fireworks are launched in a spectacular display at Hananoki Square, lighting up the night sky as the festival reaches its climax.
