Owari Nishibiwajima Festival

【Kiyosu City】
Date: First Saturday and Sunday of June every year

[Announcing the arrival of early summer in the Owari region] The Owari Nishibiwajima Festival is said to have begun in 1802 (the second year of the Kyowa era) with the creation of a votive float for the Tenno Festival. Five floats are pulled here: the Ogishi float, the Yoritomo float, the Taikyou float, the Kojin float, and the Raiko float. They are designated as cultural assets of Kiyosu City. The floats are so-called "Nagoya-style" floats, with a double-tiered outer ring and a front doll on the front mountain (shelf) and three mechanical dolls on the upper mountain. Highlights include the spectacular performances of the mechanical dolls set to the music and the heroic parading of the floats along the Mino Road. Today, the festival is held annually on the first Saturday and Sunday of June as the city's flagship festival. It is a vibrant early summer spectacle of the Mino Road, attracting many tourists.
