Regular meeting on Wednesday, January 26, 2022
Susie Yokoe, leader of the Nagoya-based chindon band "Benten-ya," known only to a select few, gave a report on the band's founding, its achievements to date, and the success of its tours around the world. Their month-long US tour in the fall of 2019, in particular, earned them radio and newspaper coverage in cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, making them famous across the US. They were also invited by Northern Kentucky University as part of their academic research, where they lectured to many students about chindon as a part of Japanese culture. Please continue to watch as "Benten-ya," a Nagoya-based chindon band representing Japan, continues to grow and develop on a global scale.
