Inuyama Castle (a national treasure) and its float festival:
its history and culture
- Inuyama Castle, a national treasure, was built in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, the uncle of Oda Nobunaga, and boasts the oldest surviving castle tower in Japan.
- Here, the Inuyama Festival, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is held, where expressive "karakuri dolls" perform magnificent acts atop 13 floats.
- It is said that the techniques used to create these "karakuri dolls" were passed down to modern manufacturing technology and contributed to the development of the automobile industry.

What is a karakuri doll?
- A karakuri doll is a doll that moves automatically without the use of electricity by means of a mechanism such as a thread, mainspring, or spring
- Some can not only move, but also fly, transform instantly, and perform advanced movements

Karakuri puppeteerNinth generation Tamaya Shobei
- The first generation was in the 18th year of Kyoho (1733), when Soji Tokugawa had a puppeteer live in Tamaya-cho in Owari, so it came to be called Tamaya Shobei
- Currently, the ninth generation Tamaya Shobei is working on production and restoration work in the workshop in Nagoya City and the workshop of the Inuyama City Cultural Museum

- Master Tamaya Shohei will personally teach you the secrets of making karakuri dolls.
- Furthermore, you can create your own prototype model of the karakuri dolls, receiving direct instruction from Master Tamaya Shohei.

Experience the history and culture of Inuyama with the Karakuri Doll Prelude.
- We will take you on a stroll through the Inuyama castle town, which retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, and guide you to the national treasure "Inuyama Castle Town."
- At the Inuyama Karakuri Museum, we will introduce you to the mechanisms of mechanical dolls.
- We will serve you heartwarming dim sum at "SHUKU," a guesthouse converted from a sake brewery.
- We invite you to a tea ceremony where the host will prepare thin matcha tea in the historic tea room within "SHUKU".
- You will receive an explanation of mechanical dolls and have the opportunity to try making one yourself, led by Master Tamaya Shohei.
